Since 2011, we've been cutting logs from your home-site to make our own lumber. It's a site-built approach that's a much more fulfilling way to build. And it often saves a little green.

Wood plays a big role in home-building: from framing and wood siding to cabinetry. With our portable Wood-Mizer sawmill, we capitalize on that. Big time. We use as much of our own lumber as we can. Which reduces the cost of construction, adds tremendous beauty to your home, and lowers the overall carbon-footprint of construction. We offer HERS ratings on our new homes to verify just how energy-efficient our building strategy really is. Often, we design and build homes that actually produce as much electricity as they use. When you build right, you can sleep well at night!

What We've Achieved

  • Heirloom Builders, Inc. designed and built a completely off-grid Straw Bale home in Chatham County.
  • We continue to build trust and leadership in the green building community by doing outreach at local events and tours of our most innovative homes - we lead by example.
  • Our Design Headquarters in Silk Hope, NC is completely off-the-grid and was created as a model home for the future of sustainable building.
  • The apprenticeship program at Heirloom Builders, Inc. has been successful in training many skilled craftsmen that have then gone out on their own - to carry forward a similar mission.
